Dixie Forest/ Lava Flow, Utah
Dixie Forest/ Lava Flow, Utah
From Las Vegas (I 15 north) to Cedar City, Utah, is not a very long drive. We have chosen for this route because it is a scenic road (Utah 14) and leads to the 89 which has a connection with the Utah 12, a beautiful road to Bryce NP. The road starts in Cedar City and runs through the Dixie National Forest, which in this time of year has very nice Fall colours. This beautiful Forest has several overlooks such as Navajo Lake, Zion overlook, Markagunt Plateau volcanic field and his Lava Flow, also many trails you can walk but also drive, 4x4 is then a must.
The picture above was taken at Markagunt Plateau volcanic field and is a Lava Flow field on the Utah 14. The beautiful Fall colors in combination with the white trees was very nice to see. The Markagunt Plateau volcanic field, located east of Cedar Breaks National Monument in SW Utah, is a group of cinder cones and lava vents. The youngest cinder cones are located near Panguitch Lake in the north and Navajo Lake in the south.
