The Shafer Trail is probably the most famous trail in Moab, UT, area. A 4x4 wheel drive, with a High Clearance, on this trail is a must as we have noticed. The day before we have some decent showers and so it was pretty muddy in some places, and if you drive along deep ravines it is really dangerous. But for us it was a challenge to see the magnificent views and the quitness during this small piece of the Shafer Trail of 19 miles. We have a very beautiful picnic on this trail as we never experienced before! The Dirty Road starts at Potach and leads along the Colorado River, Dead Horse Point and Gooseneck overlook. The Shafer Trail is a part of the White Rim Road of nearly 100 miles. For the total ride you need two days, a camping is then necessary (make a reservation). It was a beautiful ride that we very much enjoyed.  We end high on the plateau of Canyon-lands Island in the Sky, and we have overwon a height difference of more than 4000 ft.
